Connecting women...

Cahoots is an alternative Canadian online magazine for women that is more than your typical women's magazine. Cahoots is a place for diverse, original, strong, humorous, fearless writing about things - such as work, health, home, life, the world - that really matter to women. In addition to articles, Cahoots also publishes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and beautiful visual art. We invite reader response and have nine regular columnists and several bloggers who comment on everything from pop culture to physical health issues. Cahoots is a truly original title in tone, focus, and content. It is about diversity, critical thought, and engaging conversation.

Led by Carla Atherton (found/Editor-in-Chief) and Sarah Stefanson (Editor), the Cahoots staff and volunteer editorial collective is a highly skilled team dedicated to producing a quality, beautiful, meaningful, original product. Our contributors and readers are real women - imperfect, dynamic, strong, connected - who engage in meaningful conversations about the things that really matter to us (and it's not bee-stung lips).

Cahoots was created to respond to a growing demographic of women who do not buy other women's magazines or who do buy them but are looking for an alternative. Our advertisers are those people who seek to meet the needs and desires of real women living real lives.

Cahoots began as a print quarterly magazine, but in its 7th issue and after a long period of thought and research, Cahoots adopted its online only format. Our reasons for the change boiled down to the following: survival, sustainability, and longevity; our desire to pay our writers what they are worth; to strive for a higher potential for the accessibility and growth of our magazine; and to become more environmentally friendly. Cahoots had to move on, and to do so, we had to cut out what was holding us back. Thus, we are what you see here today!

We at Cahoots are working toward making this publication more than just a magazine. Cahoots is on its way to becoming a portal to the things that inspire, soothe, and motivate us through initiatives such as the Cahoots Store, Journeys For Women, and our upcoming Conspire to Inspire Awards Banquets and What's She Up To? women's conferences.

Editor's Note

  • As the old wisdom states: in order to understand the future, you need to understand the past. How true is that? The past entices learning, reminds us of what to do and what not to do, teaches us valuable lessons, and shows us from where we have come and how far. Women suffragists have blazed trails for our future, herbal women have taught us how to heal and nurture ourselves, our travels have taught us to value what we have or to reach for a better future, and our innermost desires poke to the surface reminding us to act, that there is more we want to do. Of course, we need to look toward the future, but the wisdom of the past must always be our companion.
