As the old wisdom states: in order to understand the future, you need
to understand the past. How true is that? The past entices learning,
reminds us of what to do and what not to do, teaches us valuable
lessons, and shows us from where we have come and how far. Women
suffragists have blazed trails for our future, herbal women have taught
us how to heal and nurture ourselves, our travels have taught us to
value what we have or to reach for a better future, and our innermost
desires poke to the surface reminding us to act, that there is more we
want to do. Of course, we need to look toward the future, but the
wisdom of the past must always be our companion.
I am leaving my
family. Yes. Me. A dedicated, homeschooling mother of three who works from a
home office, makes meals from scratch, hosts neighbourhood kids every weekend,
finds identity and place and purpose and joy (and let's not forget exhaustion
and stress) in being the matriarch, in being the go-to woman, the friend, the
mom. I am going on an adventure -- to the wilds of South Africa, to the
culturally stimulating Paris and Venice, to the medieval Prague and the industrial
Frankfurt. How amazing is that?!
Just 2 weeks ago I was mourning Cahoots. Really. I was quiet
and sad and a bit moody. I was ready to pack it in and make room for other
things in my life because some things just need to die, be laid to rest with
everything that came before it -- this is the cycle of life, isn't it? This is
the way of the world, and it couldn't be any other way or how boring would the
same old crap be day after day, decade after decade, millennium after
millennium?
You know, I'm going to keep this editor's note short and sweet this time. All I have to say about passion without beating a dead horse (because most of what I write about is passion) is that it is life.
It was a Saturday morning, and since I was the first one up, I had my
chance to work a bit and wake up somewhat. but after making a phone
call, I realized that we had no Saturday leisure time.

Fittingly for our Passion themed issue, we welcome our newest Cahoots Community member, Saskatoon's Positive Passions, which has come on board to sponsor Sarah Stefanson's column, Sense and Sensuality. Through their retail location, home presentations, resource centre, and website, Positive Passions provides an open, welcoming, and healthy place to obtain information, resources, and products in regards to sex, sexuality, and sexual dysfunctions.
If your business or organization is interested in sponsoring one of our regular columns (we have seven other columns in need of sponsorship), please contact us at
